About Us

About our Founder

I am Maxx Viciedo, 15 years old and currently a high school sophomore. A few years ago, I often spent too much time glued to video games; I had no idea how much of my life I was wasting, and I came to the realization that I needed to put an end to my potential addiction. However, when I tried to quit, I resumed gaming later that day. This was the moment that I embarked on a mission to not become a video game addict. All of my friends played video games for many hours each day, and I soon recognized that overcoming video game addiction is a constant battle, just like any other addiction.

This semester, I will be studying abroad in Zermatt, Switzerland in a program entitled “Swiss Semester.” I applied to this specific program not only for its rigorous educational component, but because if I were accepted I would not have use of any technology for an entire high school semester. No google. No Safari. No email. No TV. No phone. And, most importantly, no video games. I will conduct all of my studies by textbook, reading everything of of printed, paper, and will only be able to document my notes by writing in hand.

I will truly become a “subject matter expert” on experiencing what I have defined and labeled as a “Digital Get-away” by experiencing firsthand a minimum of 90 days without any technology. During my time abroad, I will officially record my thoughts, feelings, and emotions day-by-day, as I experience this Digital Getaway.

If you’ve read this far, either you think or have an addiction, you wish to overcome it, or you have a loved one battling it. By using the valuable information on my website, you will discover that your video game addiction will slowly fade away. Yet, you must agree to put in the work, too!

After years of personal experience, research and even a TED Talk on the subject, I am ready to present to you… www.VideoGameAddict.org

My Story

When I was eight-years-old, I received my first gaming console for Christmas. At first, I simply enjoyed playing video games. Over time, I no longer enjoyed these video games, but rather I craved them. When my parents seized the games in an attempt to limit my usage, I always found a way around their rules and eventually played more. The next year, I was given an Xbox. I played for so many hours that it interrupted my sleep schedule. Gaming caused me to lose focus in school and real-world relationships in the real world because I turned to video games over spending time with my friends. As I matured, it was easier for me to play video games while monitoring my time. Yet, I was still an addict and preferred gaming to leaving my house.

When I turned thirteen, I bought my first PC, and boy, did that change everything. The colors from my monitor and sounds from my headphones only exacerbated my addiction to video games.

Recently I made the decision to stop cold turkey. I felt compelled to “fix” myself and help other people by showing them how life without gaming can be so much more productive.
